Basingstoke Junior Bison Coaching

The coaching team at Basingstoke Junior Bison Ice Hockey Club has been put together to give the kids who train the best balance of discipline, skill development & fun.  We aim to improve every players performance as individuals as well as part of a team & we hope you as players & parents will continue to work with us to achieve this goal.

 U10s Coach - Mickey Walker

Mickey has played hockey for 11 years and started in the U10's at Basingstoke.  She remained a faithful Junior Bison all the way through to the U18s and is now playing for the Kingston Diamonds in Hull.  

 

She has also played for Great Britain Under 18's Women and the Great Britain University Women's teams.

U14s Coach - Leah White

Leah has coached for 5 seasons now, leading last years U14s through an unbeaten season finishing with the team moving up to the A league.

Leah has played for Slough Phantoms in premier league during which time the team won their league 3 times. She has also played for South England and England teams.

Her ice hockey has taken her to Lativa, Prague & Paris & she brings not just great experience but her unique sense of humour to the Junior Bison Coaching team.  

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

U16s Coach - Natz Aldridge

Natz currently has returned to this country after playing three years abroad in North America where she played and also coached for a skill specific company. Natz is currently playing for Bracknell Queen Bees as well as representing Team Great Britain for the last four years.
She is very dedicated and passionate about improving every individual as well as the team as a whole while having some fun.
Natz also coaches Bracknell U16 girls team , and just been appointed assistant coach of Southwest U13 Juniors.

 

 

  

 

U18s Coach - Nicky Watt

Nicky  plays for Swindon Wildcats in the EPL when not coaching at Basingstoke.  With 8 years of pro hockey under his belt & experience as a GB junior Nicky brings energy & commitment to his players & he demands the same in return.

He has coached for the Southwest Conference level & also runs several hockey camps thoughout the year.

Netminder Coach - Craig Agass

 Craig has been coaching goalies for the past 7 years & is currently Head goalie coach for the South West Conference team. This season he is also taking the role of Goalie Coach for the Bison EPL team.

Craig has spent his full career at Basingstoke from juniors U10's to ENL & represented the South West at U17's.  His training ethos says:

"At basingstoke we aim to bring our goalies the most up to date and comprehensive goalie coaching in the UK, with monthly goalie sessions and constant mentoring on and off the ice we have a program which is proven to give goalies the tools they need to to reach National and Pro level hockey. All goalies within our program work under our three D's of success, desire, determination and dedication." 

 

  

BIHDC Training Guidelines

The club operates the following policy regarding training & matches. By attending training sessions you are accepting the terms as summarised below. For further details visit the policies & forms page.

  • All training will be 45mins per Monday and Wednesdays.
  • Training up will be the coach’s decision and a privilege to the player.
  • The coach has control on ice and on the bench.
  • If you wish to speak to the coach please ask your Manager to arrange a time after training and not during the games.
  • No parents are to be on or near the bench during games or training sessions.
  • Subs are for training ice, game ice, EIHA courses, EIHA game sheets, registration Managers (I per team), off ice officials (1 per team), coaches, club expenses.
  • Annual subscription £750.00 – the Board has continued to allow several options to pay the subs – one payment £750.00 – 2 payments of £375.00 (August and January) – monthly £75.00 (for 10 months) – monthly due of the 1st of month – NO PAY – NO PLAY.
  • Subs are due all through the season should a player leave the club subs will be paid in full – any outstanding fees BIHDC will not release the player – hockey injury, serious illness, broken arm/leg etc speak to the club treasurer – any other non attendance subs will be due.
  • All players will pay £50.00 due August on the clubs return to the new season and paid to their team treasurer towards refs and trophies.
  • Players that only play in the challenge games will also pay and this will go towards the refs and trophies.
  • All Players to inform your Manager if you will not be attending training and managers to keep a training log.
  • Each player will give to their team treasurer a raffle prize.
  • Each team will bag pack and have a Bison raffle night also please try and get sponsorship.
  • Sell programmes and raffle tickets at your matches every little helps.
  • Each team to have a parents rota for jobs at the games – parents please take your turn.
  • Managers to maintain good behaviour in the changing rooms and around the rink.
  • Managers to check before and after training for any damage and report to the Board ASAP.
  • Managers to put up a team list on the BIHDC notice board in the rink on a Wednesday night for the game at the weekend (please speak to your coaches for this information) make sure players know to take a look at the list so they know by Wednesday night if they are playing.
  • No invited players from other clubs to train unless the Board has been informed. You will need their name, contact number, club they are from, DOB. Players are able to train for 4 sessions at a fee of £40.00. The coach will decide he wishes the player to join the team.
  • Players Stick and Puck are not insured to play league or challenge games only to train.
  • At the end of the season £100.00 must be left in the team accounts and after end of seasons celebration any monies that remain will be divided between players staying and players moving up this will be the clubs treasurer’s role.
  • No ball games or hitting of pucks around the rink in the café area.
